Sometimes life gets on top of you. I know the feeling well. There’s world news, there’s health stuff, there’s studying or work. This tangled ball of things gets on top of you and absorbs all of your time and energy. How does one stop, take a breath, and make time for the magickal in this world? Is it even the right thing to do?
It has been a really long time since I’ve read a book about psychic/magickal things. It’s been a while since I’ve sat on my red chair and gazed into my crystal ball. I haven’t lit my candles in weeks either. This is supposed to be what I do. It’s supposed to be a key part of my life, and yet the rest of life has stood in the way.
I suppose the answer is to take small steps. Draw one oracle card, ask the crystal ball one question or just spend five minutes meditating with it. But what happens when you can’t even do that? What do you do when spending time in the magickal feels like an escape from things in the real world we all need to witness? Sometimes I ask myself if I am just running away. Am I playing with pretty things while the world is burning?
The answer, of course, is no. I’m not playing with the pretty things I own. I’m not adding to them. I’m not reading about them. I’m just ignoring them, locked inside myself, and it’s not making me any more powerful. It is not doing anything positive for the world.
If you’re using your magick and psychic skills to empower yourself at this time, I salute you. If you’re enriching yourself with small magickal acts, I can only say “well done!” It’s more than I am doing. I’m managing to be un-magickal and feeling bad about it at the same time.
The next step? I need to pull that one oracle card from my deck. I need to meditate with my crystal ball for five minutes. I might even pull out a book to read. There are so many books in my collection I can feast on. There’s one about magickal aromatherapy, one about spell casting, more than one about communing with the spirits. It’s time I pick one and dive into it.
I’m on a journey back to the magickal, and I’ll let you know how it goes.
